The Final Countdown

Source: Art Sadlier, Sunday May 8th 2011

The UN, US, EU along with Russia, China, the Arab nations and the rest of the world are on a determined course to force Israel to surrender to the Arab demands which would mean the demise of Israel. They are determined to divide Israel’s land.

Will Jerusalem be divided, with the eastern part given to the Palestinians?

The answer from the scriptures is no! Not at this time.

We know that the Temple will be rebuilt and we know that the signing of the Peace Treaty with Antichrist will initiate the tribulation period and will grant the Jews the right to build the third temple.

Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2:4 that the temple will be standing during the tribulation period.

Daniel 9:27 announces this treaty. “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Notice that in at the mid-point Antichrist breaks this treaty and the temple worship is terminated. That clearly indicates that the Temple worship is tied to the Peace Treaty.

The Temple is to be built where the first two temples once stood; it is unthinkable that the Jews would build it anywhere else. The temple site is in East Jerusalem which indicates that the Jews will not surrender East Jerusalem but will be there until the third Temple is built and the temple worship is restored. The Palestinians will not gain East Jerusalem for their capital. East Jerusalem is the biblical Jerusalem of Bible times.

Will the Palestinians remove Israel from Judea and Samaria (known today as the West Bank)?

Again the answer from the scriptures is no! Not at this time.

The Jews will be living in East Jerusalem at the time of the Peace Treaty as the Temple is rebuilt.

Jesus indicates that the Jews will be living in Jerusalem and Judea at the mid-tribulation point. “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains” (Matthew 24:15-16). I believe that this midtribulation point is the time the land will be parted.

In Zechariah 12 the Jews are living in Jerusalem at the end of the tribulation period.

Obama and the nations of the world will not succeed in dividing the land of Israel at this time.

What about the words of Joel 3:2, “I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead (judge) with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.”

We read that the Lord has promised to bring judgment on the nations for two reasons.

First -  “Whom they have scattered among the nations;” that is history.

Second -  “And parted my land.” Today every single nation on the face of the earth, including Canada and the US, are committed to a two state solution to the “Mideast problem,” as they call it. A two state solution means dividing the promised land, between the Palestinians and Israel. It is significant that the whole world is defying God in this matter. They will not accomplish it at this time, but God will judge them for their determination to do it and their pressure on Israel to surrender to it. I believe the parting of the land will take place at the midtribulation point.

We also know that there cannot be a peace treaty signed at this time with the Arab/Muslim nations. We know that these nations have one passionate desire and that desire is to destroy Israel and to remove her from the land they call Palestine. (See the May issue Sound the Trumpet article “The False Peace Treaty.")

The recent formation of a unity government between the PA and Hamas guarantees there will be no peace with Israel. The leader of Hamas has vowed that Hamas will never negotiate peace with Israel.

This scenario leaves us with a problem. How can a peace treaty be signed “with many,” as it is stated in Daniel 9:27?  Today it can’t happen. Tomorrow it will happen. Something significant has to happen in the meantime.

I believe that “something significant” is a major war that is foretold in the scriptures, that is the war of Psalm 83, Ezekiel 36, and Isaiah 17.

This war of Psalm 83 occurs against a backdrop of persecution by the Edomites as they seek to strip Israel of her land. (See Ezekiel 36:2, 5 – Psalm 83:2-5)  A study by Jimmy De Young shows the Palestinians to be the descendants of the Edomites. Today the Palestinians along with Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Iran are boldly asserting that they will remove Israel from the land. They have stated that there is no room in the Mideast for the Jews.

In Psalm 83:6-8, the antagonists of this war are given:  Assur = Syria;  Edom = the Palestinians;  Ammon = Jordan;  the Philistines = Gaza and Hamas;  Tyre = Lebanon and Hezbollah. That is the very group of nations now preparing to attack Israel. Iran is not mentioned and seems to play only a supporting role in arming these groups. This involves a tight circle of the enemies of Israel, those within or on her borders. The war of Ezekiel 38-39 involves a wider circle of Israel’s enemies beyond her borders. These nations are named in Ezekiel 38, they are a separate group altogether. The war of Armageddon will involve the nations of the entire world. I believe these are three separate wars. One occurs prior to the tribulation period, one occurs early in the tribulation period and one at the end of the tribulation period.

Today we stand on the threshold of a regional war in the mideast, a war with multi-fronts. One retired US general, not a believer, said that he believes this coming war will change the world forever.

At this moment it seems that Israel is in danger of being destroyed in this war. These enemies of Israel have assembled a tremendous arsenal of missiles that can reach all of Israel with tremendous explosive power; however, we know that God will intervene in a miraculous way as he did in Israel’s previous modern wars. God is repeatedly allowing Israel’s back to go to the wall during these days. He is doing this in order to arrest Israel with His mercy and provision for them.

One news analyst believes that as a result of this war Israel will reoccupy the Gaza and South Lebanon. It is also quite possible that chemical and biological weapons will be used and possibly nuclear weapons. There is some indication of this in Isaiah 17:1,14. Israel may exercise the Samson option, the last resort use of nuclear weapons. I suggest that this war, when it starts, will begin the final countdown toward the peace treaty and the tribulation period.

The nations of the world have struggled mightily to obtain peace between Israel and the Palestinians, but to no avail. The present negotiations are doomed to failure because the prophet tells us that someday a leader from Rome will lead in the signing of this false peace treaty not an American president, (Daniel 9:26-27). Though the peace treaty seems imminent, we also know that the rapture must occur first or simultaneously with it. It would seem to me that the war of Psalm 83, with its cataclysmic effect on the Mideast and the whole world, would be a stage setting event for the peace treaty.

We are told in Psalm 83; Isaiah 17; and Ezekiel 36 that as a result of this war Israel will suffer great losses but that her enemies will be decimated and greatly humbled as a consequence of the great victory of Israel over them. The nations would also be desperate as the threat of an all-out nuclear war looms over the world.

Instead of rejecting peace, as at the present time, the Islamic world will sue for peace.

We have watched as Israel seems to be sinking into a hopeless situation. Each new development seems to make Israel’s position more desperate. It is when Israel comes to the end of her own resources that God moves in to deliver her in a miraculous way. We are standing on the threshold of divine intervention on Israel’s behalf. At this time it seems as if the final drama is about to begin.

The trumpet is about to sound. Are you ready? Are you saved? Now is the accepted time, tomorrow may be forever too late!
