What Lies Ahead for Israel??? #2

Source: Art Sadlier, Wednesday June 1st 2011

I am not a prophet nor do I have any special revelation from the Lord, but I believe that we can know what the lord has in store for Israel in the future by carefully studying His word.

What is ahead for Israel prior to the beginning of the tribulation period, what scenario do we find in the scriptures? What is in store for Israel when the tribulation period begins, what is the scenario that scriptures foretell?

Today the nations of the world are determined to divide the land of Israel, every nation in the world, including Canada, is advocating this division. The type of division that the UN, the Arab countries and the majority of nations are seeking will divide Israel in such a way that ultimately Israel will cease to exist. Even as the Islamic countries and groups around Israel are preparing a war of annihilation they are planning to go to the UN and have a ruling that would force Israel to surrender. This surrender would be to borders that would be, as Prime Minister Netanyahu has said, are indefensible. A tremendous momentum has begun to bring Israel to the point of annihilation. Israel is now without hope as viewed from a human perspective.

Israel is God’s special place on earth, Jerusalem is His future world capital and the Jews are His chosen people. Satan has repeatedly tried to destroy them throughout history and the spirit of antichrist is moving today on the Muslim nations and peoples to bring about Israel’s demise. If you destroy Israel, you destroy God’s revealed plan for the earth. However God has made a promise to Israel, “For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God" (2 Samuel 7:24). The nations of the world will fail to bring about Israel’s demise.

The first issue we will seek to deal with is the issue of Israel’s survival. The first question is what will be Israel’s situation as the soon coming tribulation period begins?

First we discover that as the tribulation period begins the Third Temple will be rebuilt, and the Temple worship will be restored. We see this in 2 Thessalonians 2:4, we see a rebuilt temple at the mid-tribulation point, and the worship evidently will be restored or how could it be terminated?

In Daniel 9:27 we see that the signing of the Peace treaty begins the seven year tribulation period and it evidently grants Israel the right to rebuild the Temple and re-establish the Temple worship. Daniel 9:27, “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” If Antichrist terminates the Temple worship at the mid-tribulation point, it must have been restored at the beginning of the tribulation period. The Peace Treaty evidently will give Israel the right to rebuild the Temple.

Today in Israel the preparations for rebuilding the Temple and restoring the worship have virtually been completed. The furnishings and instruments have been prepared and are ready for use. The blueprints for the Temple are being prepared. Hundreds of priests have been trained and harps have been made for the Temple orchestra.

If the Temple worship is restored at the beginning of the tribulation period, the obvious conclusion is that the Palestinians will no longer be present in sufficient numbers or with sufficient power to have any effect or influence on Israel as the tribulation period begins. The situation today precludes the possibility of Temple construction or the restoration of Temple worship because of the presence and obstinacy of the Muslim nations and Muslim peoples.

In line with that scenario we discover that Israel will be dwelling in peace and security in the first part of the tribulation period. We learn this in Ezekiel 38: 8 where we read, “After many days thou shalt be visited: (referring to Russia) in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.” The setting here is early in the tribulation period. It has to be early in the tribulation period because that is the only time Israel will enjoy a brief period of peace until the Prince of Peace comes. It will be a temporary peace that comes after the Peace Treaty is signed by Antichrist to initiate the Tribulation period.

The fact that the Temple is rebuilt and that there is peace indicates that the Palestinians and their associates will be totally subdued at that time and perhaps moved out of Israel altogether. That requires a monumental change in the present situation.

If we are as close to the tribulation period as the signs around us would seem to indicate, there must take place a dramatic change in the present Mideast scenario. There is an obvious conviction among Israel’s enemies at this moment that they are on the verge of their long sought victory over Israel. We could fill a book with statements and quotes as to how they fully intend to annihilate Israel. The commitment of the Arab nations and the rest of the world powers along with the Palestinians, Hamas and Hezbollah to destroy Israel in conjunction with the UN must be somehow frustrated and subdued. How will this subduing take place?

Let us consider for a moment where the present situation is headed. Virtually the whole world is committed to a two state solution. Their intention is to divide the land along the 1967 borders. This would make it impossible for Israel to defend herself from the war now being prepared for by Israel’s enemies all around her. Thousands of missiles and tanks would be moved into the West Bank, everyone knows that Israel would be unable to defend herself.

Even now a motion is being prepared to be presented to the UN in September; this motion would unilaterally declare a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders. Following that, if not included in it, would be motion that some 4-5 million Palestinians refugees would arbitrarily be granted the right of return to homes in Israel proper, homes their ancestors abandoned in 1948. This move, in and of itself would bring about Israel’s demise.

At some point along the way Israel will have to resist these moves. It is likely that at some point hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Arabs will attempt to crash Israel’s borders and return to the homes they abandoned in 1948. The chaos would result perhaps in another intifada.

One of the most common refrains we hear as this whole process develops is that war is inevitable. There can be no successful peace process, the Arabs do not want peace, though they mouth the words to gain leverage in the West. We have heard over and over again that Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinians and the Arab nations will settle for nothing less than Israel’s demise. The nations immediately around Israel have been for some time, planning and arming and preparing for a war to annihilate Israel. There are as many as 70-80,000 missiles ready to be launched against Israel by Hezbollah alone. One Hamas leader said boldly that the Jews have been returned to the land so that we can totally annihilate them.

This coming war will be , I believe the war of Psalm 83, also referred to in Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 35-36. (See the article entitled “The Coming War)

This coming war will bring severe destruction on northern Israel but Israel will survive. On the contrary this war will bring about the demise of the Palestinians and their allies, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Jordan. The world will be shaken by the magnitude of this war and by the results. The world will be traumatized by the use of chemical weapons and perhaps nuclear weapons. There will be a temporary respite for Israel as the nations stand in awe of what has happened and at what God has done.

The whole Mideast scenario will be dramatically changed. The Palestinians will not gain control over the Temple Mount as they now demand. They will not obtain an independent state in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), even though the whole world has now committed it to them. Syria will not regain the Golan Heights. Hamas will not drive Israel into the Mediterranean Sea and gain control of Israel from the Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. Hezbollah will not destroy Israel as they have boasted.

Instead of Israel’s destruction her enemies will be decimated. The situation will be ripe for the Antichrist to come on the scene and deceive the nations with a false peace proposal. The peace proposal will probably involve a great disarmament program.

After the Peace Treaty has been signed, the Islamic nations beyond Israel’s borders who were not involved in the war of Psalm 83 will recover from the deception and intimidation. They will regroup and wage the war of Ezekiel 38-39. This war will take place early in the tribulation period while Israel is still enjoying the effects of the peace treaty. I believe the parting of the land spoken of in Joel 3:2 will occur later, at the mid-tribulation point (see Matt 24:15 and following).

I have given you my understanding of what I believe the scriptures teach in this area. It is your responsibility, to search the scriptures yourself, and come to your own understanding of what they teach. Read Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 35-36.
